Lea Hilsemer studied cultural studies at the University of Leipzig, the Universiteit van Amsterdam, and the Humboldt University of Berlin. She was a fellow of the DFG Research Training Group ‘The Photographic Dispositive’ at the Braunschweig University of Art and worked for various international cultural institutions such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York or the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Since January 2020 she has been a research assistant at the Research Centre ‘The Technical Image’. Her research interests lie in the field of art reception research and the social uses of photography, with a particularly focus on art reception practices of mediated seeing based on photos by exhibition visitors.
