Sharon Macdonald is Professor of Social Anthropology with an emphasis on Museums and Heritage.
She came to the Humboldt-Universität in 2015 as an Alexander von Humboldt Professor, after having held several full professorships in the UK. Committed to transdisciplinary and collaborative research, she has been Principal Investigator in European and in national research projects, and she has worked with many different museums and heritage organizations in Germany and elsewhere.
In Berlin, she established and directed the Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage (CARMAH) and, together with Eva Ehninger, the Käte Hamburger Centre for Advanced Study inherit – heritage in transformation, which began in 2024.
Her academic writing is internationally known and has been published in over ten languages.
