Hartmut Burggrabe studied literature and theater at the Free University of Berlin and the Università degli Studi di Siena, with longer stays in Vienna and Palermo. He was a doctoral student in the German-Italian Doctoral College of the Universities of Bonn/Florence. As a research assistant and mediator he participated in various exhibition and research projects, among others for the ‘Praxis für Ausstellungen und Theorie’ [Hürlimann|Lepp|Tyradellis], at the ETH Zurich and the Akademie der Künste Berlin.
Hartmut Burggrabe has been active in the field of cultural education for over ten years and has curated numerous independent and institutional cultural projects and event series. From 2014 to 2017 he was head of cultural programs at the Goethe-Institut Rome. Since then, he has been a freelance cultural mediator, curator and tour guide, focusing on intercultural, interdisciplinary and participatory approaches.
At the Humboldt Labor, Hartmut Burggrabe has been responsible for the development of future cultural education programs since May 2020. He is particularly concerned with opening up the Humboldt Labor to an audience as broad and diverse as possible, including non-academic audiences, and – in line with the project’s laboratory idea – experimenting with and trying out new forms of cultural education and outreach.
